Why is Hawaii the happiest state in America, when it makes alot less money than most states and we struggle...?

to pay rent often?

we aren't rich, most of us work two jobs to support our living, and we often times struggle to make ends meet due to rich people from other places buying all the land and thus driving rent sky-high.

however, we're the happiest and least stressed state.

is this because of our collectivist, communalist values that mark property as unimportant in life, and being rich as a pipe dream that is not worth pursuing?

FYI: for those who think it's always sunny or nice, or that we spend all day at the beach go to Hilo, Kahului, or Nanakuli, and tell us if life is "perfect" here. (also, remember that Miami and LA have beaches too, and they still seem pretty stressed out)

Answer :
Good to see "The Red Star Truth" is back. I would be less stressed living on my daddy's dime. Pretending to work 2 jobs sounds stressful.
Happiness is subjective.

Answer :
Awww, shoot, I was going to say the weather.

February in Minnesota is enough to make anyone crabby.

Answer :
You tell us you are the one that lives there.
we should make all of you liberals move to an island in the pacific.

Is it just me or does the media have their prorities mixed up?

Everyone knows a quake has hit chile early this morning but now there is a Tsunami warning all around the west coast. It's on one news station and thats for Hawaii. I feel like they shouldnt even issue a warning here if they are not going to keep us up to date or have it on the news at least so we know what to think. I live right on the beach of oceanside CA and have no idea what to do or how serious it really is. The news can talk about tiger woods on 20 channels at a time but not a tsunami that could danger people's lives and property. I dont understand. What precautions should I take? I live RIGHT by the water.

Answer :
The news here are a disgusting joke. They became a lame attempt at "entertainment", it's not news anymore, it's just a lot of fluff followed by tv idiots yaketing their nonsensical and irrelevant opinions. I am watching the Mexican coverage on the earthquake and tsunami, on the Mexican channel, which usually sucks and I hate to have in my cable package, to be honest, but I must say that even not getting the language completely I can see it is a much better coverage than CNN or FOX. And it does not have 3 billion commercial interruptions, either. I am going to get some foreign channels or something, I am totally sick of American "news".

Answer :
Actually they say it shouldn't be that bad on the west coast, mostly rip tides in the water. NOAA only issued an advisory for CA, OR, and WA. Hawaii is supposed to receive the brunt of whatever tsumami is approaching.

Answer :
if you were in any real danger you would know. other than that you are pretty much right.

What would be involved in a Hawaii wedding?

Ive been with my boyfriend for about 3 years and were planning on getting married. We are planning a graduation celebration trip to Hawaii in may (graduating with my second bachelors). I thought it would be really neat to just get married while were over there, just the two of us on a beach somewhere. However, my mom informed me that there are alot of costs involved in doing that (well, still less than a "traditional" wedding, but still) What kind of costs would be involved? I know that the license itself is 60...but how much would we have to shell out for a priest and all that good stuff? Any help is appreciated!! Thanks!

Additional Details

I dont want a "traditional" wedding. I just want the JOP part on a beach in hawaii. No guests, no reception, just me and my man getting married on a beach. Im not spending the amount of a new car on one day of my life.

*sigh*.....well, thanks for your detailed explanation of why you wouldnt want to get married on a beach. However, I do. I am very socially shy, and dont want to be the center of attention for a traditional wedding. Im not religious so even a really pretty church isnt going to send "shivers up my spine". But getting married to my boyfriend on one of the most beautiful islands on the planet would. No, there would be no guests, as Ive already said. No, its not about saving money, even though I wouldnt waste money on a traditional wedding, thats not the driving factor behind this choice. Yes, I have family, some that will be disappointed to not get to see us getting married, but no, I dont care enough to have to get all gussied up and in front of everyone. This is what I want to do, not you. My question deals with what I need to do to make this happen, not your feelings on my choice.

Answer :
I think you mom is speculating, and secretly trying to get you to get married closer to home where she can attend. I'm not aware of any extra costs just because it's the state of Hawaii. If you're going there anyway, I think it's a good idea :)

Answer :
I would never consider getting married on a beach, you will end up paying for something that will never be as lovely as a traditional wedding and the beauty of a church sending shivers up and down your spine. Your hair will blow everywhere, there is no real formality, just a stroll onto the beach and a few rickety chairs that sink in the sand when your guests sit on them. You will never be able to invite the elderly in your family, the cost of a wedding means getting people over there that are not living there, unless you have no family or do not care whether they are there or not. However, good luck saving money.

Answer :
A normal priced wedding is about $20,000. A cheap wedding is under $10,000. I am planning mine on a $4,000 budget, and let me tell you, it is extremely hard to do.

If a wedding is what you want, and not a JP/Courthouse wedding... pretty much just the legal part.

Costs and what is needed for destination wedding?

Okay, I want to elope this May when my boyfriend and I go to Hawaii.

I know the cost of the license is 60 dollars, but what other costs would be entailed in getting married?

Keep in mind there will be NO guests, just us. And also, please spare me your "Oh, but a traditional wedding is so much better". I hate being the center of attention and just want it to be me and my man on a beautiful beach.

Any ideas/thoughts/similar stories you have would help. Thanks!!!

Answer :
Destination weddings are fabulous and the best part is that you can truly make it your day instead of trying to please everyone else. Costs: Dress, tux, flowers, candles, hotel, plane tickets, minister (or whoever marries you will cost money).
Just the regular costs of travel after that. Best of luck and all the congratulations!
